August | 2025 The Pause Let this be your invitation — or your permission, if that’s what you need. “Presence. Stillness. Pause.” They’ve become the tagline of every slogan, but more often than not, they’re whispered between the hustle — slipped into conversation right before another to-do list.
I’ve lost count of how many times someone has said, “You and Mike are so busy.” And sure, we are. But I’ve noticed how often busyness gets equated with success. I want to challenge that. Because to me, busyness isn’t always abundance. Sometimes, it’s a lack — a lack of boundaries, a lack of stillness, maybe even a fear of pausing. Somewhere along the way, we started to treat stillness like failure, like a lack of productivity. But what if that’s wrong? What if, in stillness, we actually find ourselves? What if stillness is where purpose lives? What if doing nothing is where everything begins? This morning, I walked down to the creek without my phone. No AirPods. Something I rarely do. Usually, that time is filled with news, music, podcasts. Multitasking. Staying informed. Staying inspired. Staying fit. But I’d forgotten what it felt like to just be. So today, I sat. And I noticed what usually goes unnoticed. Even just a few blocks from my house, the air smells different by the creek. The birds sing a softer song there — less interrupted. You can hear the rocks shifting in the current. And when the sun hits the tall grass just right, the blades cast layered shadows — like a living painting. All of this — missed. Missed when I’m listening to the weight of the world. Missed when I’m checking the exercise box. Missed when I’m immersed in someone else’s lyrics instead of my own breath.
So I offer you this: a gentle nudge to pause. Sit in a place that brings you peace. No agenda. Leave the phone at home. Take out the earbuds. Let the quiet find you. Feel the grass underfoot. The breeze on your skin. The sunlight on your face. Smell. Listen. See. Just be. Unbusy yourself — if only for a moment. Not to achieve. Not to improve. Just to be. xoxo,
