July | 2025 From the beginning, Magpie has always been about community.
Not just the kind that walks through the front door, but the kind that shows up before it opens—the people who prep, plate, pour, and hold steady through the rhythm of each night. And right now, we’re lucky to be surrounded by a team that brings heart to every corner. Mike and I don’t take for granted the people who show up each night to make it all work. We’re genuinely grateful to be doing this alongside them. Any restaurateur knows: a restaurant is only as good as the team behind it.
They’re the heartbeat of the experience—the ones who set the tone, who create a sense of welcome whether guests arrive to celebrate or simply to catch their breath. Our kitchen, led by Chef Chase Cardoza, is grounded in kindness and mutual respect. He brings a quiet confidence and a generosity of spirit that’s felt by everyone around him—rare qualities in any industry, and especially in kitchens. Alongside him is his sous chef, Randy Hostetter, whose steady presence and skill help anchor the rhythm of the line. Together, they’ve built a team that moves with trust, ease, and a shared sense of purpose. The menu continues to evolve under their guidance, shaped by fresh, local ingredients and an intuitive sense of beauty. Each plate that leaves the kitchen tells a story of collaboration, care, and craft. We’re deeply grateful they found their way to us—and that their team did, too. We’re especially grateful for the team members who have been with us through many seasons—Tara, who has been part of our kitchen for two and a half years; Travis, who’s nearing his second year with us this fall; and Kevin, Rosie, Corrine, and Selena, who have each been with us for over a year. Their continued presence has quietly shaped the rhythm and spirit of what we’re building, and we’re so thankful they’ve chosen to grow with us. We’ve also welcomed some wonderful new faces to the floor this summer—each bringing their own light and rhythm to the room. Some are here just for the season, others will stay longer, all have added something meaningful to the Magpie. And to our local community: thank you.
Thank you for your patience during the high tide of summer. Thank you for your flexibility when the books are full. And most of all, thank you for showing up with your kindness, your stories, your familiar faces. While we truly love welcoming visitors from near and far, there’s something about seeing our locals walk through the door that makes us feel at home. We’ll keep doing our part to hold the door open, set the table, and care for what we’re creating in a way that reflects what it’s always been meant to be—yours, too. With gratitude,
